Account Executive - Chicago, IL

We currently have an opening for an Account Executive in our Chicago office.

Accountabilities:
  • Manage all aspects of the MDR/client relationship within a designated portfolio of accounts and key prospects.
  • Sell the full component of MDR’s products & services at or above accountability, determine and fulfill customer needs, plan & execute account growth strategies, conduct regular customer site visits to provide consultation, generate and close proposals, and superbly manage all levels of customer care/support.
  • Conduct regular customer visits to stay appraised of and consult on customer marketing strategies, identify opportunities for MDR product applications, and also provide value-added insight into educational market opportunities in the form of trend presentations, best practice marketing applications, etc.
  • Responsible for attending and actively participating in industry tradeshows and conventions frequently held on weekends throughout the country. Meet with current customers at these events to enhance business relationships and identify new sales opportunities within existing customer base. Will also proactively seek to expand existing base by actively pursuing and enrolling new customers.
  • Represent MDR and its products/services to the education marketplace with a full understanding of product capabilities, applications, pricing, formats, counts, and features & benefits. Understand and remain current with the education market including demographic trends, funding trends, purchasing methods and patterns, and emerging needs. Understand and remain current with database marketing, direct mail, software solution selling, fields sales, inside sales, and emarketing best practices.
  • Recruit, train and provide day-to-day direction to account representative(s) on team. Conduct formal quarterly performance appraisals and provide ongoing feedback, coaching and counseling on job performance throughout the year. Will make hiring, firing, promotion or change of status recommendations to leaders/managers.
  • Submit accurate and timely reports as required by management including: monthly reports, forecasts, and expense reports. Deliver periodic progress reports (written or verbal) on execution of key account strategies.
  • Represent MDR in an ethical and professional manner, including compliance with D&B’s Code of Conduct.

Job Requirements:

  • Manage MDR's largest strategic accounts. Results-oriented individual with strong thought leadership required. Position warrants a strong strategic thinker with the ability to manage a large sales territory and exercise independence, autonomy and sound judgment in making strategic business recommendations and decisions.
  • A minimum of three years of outside and consultative selling experience required. Superior written and verbal communication skills plus strong organizational, customer relations and interpersonal skills also required.
  • Strong track record of success selling data, educational, emarketing, or intangible products a plus. Proficiency with consultative selling methods, like SPIN. Previous experience managing complex customer relationships to exceed revenue goals.
  • Excellent working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Email, Internet, Intranet, etc.
  • May be called upon to act as a backup to the team's sales leader/manager in their absence.
  • College graduate.
